Virginia Zorzi completed her Ph.D. in the ‘Linguistic, Philological and Literary Science’ Doctoral Programme at the University of Padova in 2019. Her main research interests are in Applied Linguistics and Public Communication of Science and Technology. From a methodological point of view, her work involves the integration of quantitative analysis – covering the areas of corpus linguistics, statistics and NLP – with qualitative approaches to explore large text corpora. In her thesis, she analysed the language of science and technology in a corpus of online newspaper articles in English, relating her results to sociological theories on the role and development of science and technology in society. Besides the media representation of technoscience and scientific controversies, she is also interested in populism and political communication in social media, as well as in the connection between language and gender.
